ABOUT US
A SunLit Path, a unit of Pappammal and Muthugounder Trust, is a charitable trust based in India that promotes art and healing for those from all walks of life, irrespective of race, caste, creed, sex or religion.
Our Intention
The Mother (Mirra Alfassa) and Sri Aurobindo spoke of The Sunlit Path as one which is “full of sunshine and as spontaneous as a flower opening to the light”. It is entered through a spirit of faith and surrender rather than tension and strain.
The intention at our centre is to offer a space to walk this path together aided by the wisdom and grace of the Indian classical art forms and healing systems.
Our Inspiration
Each one of us, is always in a deeply continued connectivity with our roots. One cannot help but notice an undeniable oneness among all Ancient Traditions. Their surging inspiration, deep insights and blazing quests divulge an in-depth understanding of the hidden dimensions of the dynamic mystery called Life. Traditions speak of rituals or practices, techniques devoted toward an inner journey aimed at the betterment of Humanity as a whole, through dimensions such as Healing, Medicine, Alchemy, Astrology, Arts, etc.
With a deeply revered approach, we take inspiration from the ancient Tamil Siddha Tradition rising from the southern part of India, in present-day state of Tamilnadu. The Tamil Saints are called Siddhas which comes from a Tamil term derived from the root word ‘Chit’ (pure consciousness). One that abides as consciousness is called “Chittar” or Siddhar. They are Immoral Masters, having attained Mastery over the very basis of Existence. They are the spiritual scientists or “Yogis” of ancient Tamilnadu. Their sacred teaching was passed down solely by oral tradition before being gradually folded into the twilight language of mystic poetry. The several thousand documented words of these compassionate sages speak on medicine, yoga, inner and external alchemy, vastu sastra, astrology, occult science, martial art, lifestyle and ethics, tantric knowledge, gnana (path of wisdom), etc.
Of its numerous dimensions, only a part of the medicinal aspect is more known and remembered. Even after being aware of the physical body as transient, they honoured it as the only instrument by which a person can attain the ultimate goal. Thus, the system of Siddha medicine can be rightly called a by-product of the Siddha’s practice to read the Ultimate. This explains why this science, though perfected, appears to be a mingling of art, philosophy and science.
These words are taken directly from Siddhas: Masters of Nature, a book written by Thiru Palpandian to inspire the reader towards himself rather than a study of ancient science. The book, like our offerings at A Sunlit Path, offers an invitation; indicates where you stand and reminds you of Home.
Our Emblem
The Padma Mudra is known as the Lotus Seal because it resembles a blossoming lotus. Just the lotus rises from the dark muck to blossom unscathed at the water’s surface, we rise from the dark depths of ignorance to blossom in the light of inner awakening. The Lotus Mudra opens our Anahata (Heart) chakra to receive love and compassion and to help us remember that our very essence is love and bliss.
-SKYLARKS are songbirds known for their complex, melodious singing while rising high in the sky. Their ethereal song represents pure expression and ultimate joy. You can see them hovering, fluttering and making aerobatic displays rather than flying swift and fast like other small birds.
Like the skylark, may we burst into song and dance in an expression of spontaneous joy and play.
-CALADRIUS is an ancient dove-like bird with miraculous healing powers that appears in early Indian writings as ‘Haridruva’. It is said to be able to absorb a person’s sickness into itself through its gaze and then fly up to the sun where the illness is burned up and destroyed, healing both itself and the sick person in the process.
Like the caladrius, may we burn away our impurities and heal ourselves and each other.
-RAVENS’ midnight wings carry messages beyond space and time. They are a harbinger of messages from the cosmos, connecting the material world with the spirit world.
May the raven serve as a guide for our mystical journeys and initiate us into life’s deeper mysteries.
